first_imgJoey Barton has rubbished suggestions Ronald Koeman could be sacked by Everton. The Dutchman, along with the West Ham’s Slaven Bilic, is the bookies’ favourite to be the first Premier League manager to be axed this season.Everton have made a poor start to the season and are currently in the bottom three, having collected just four points from their first five top-flight games, and lost their opening Europa League group match 3-0 to Atalanta last week. But Barton, a lifelong Toffees fan, doesn’t believe that will lead to a knee-jerk reaction from the club’s chiefs. When asked on Monday morning if he expects Koeman to still be in charge at Everton after Christmas, Barton insisted: “Oh yeah, for sure.”Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he added. “Everton have got Bournemouth, Burnley and Brighton in their next three [Premier League] games and even if they were to lose them and were abject in terms of their performances… I’d still be surprised [if Koeman went].“Everton usually give their managers time, they don’t usually panic, and I don’t think Bill Kenwright, Farhad Moshiri and the Everton board will panic.“Koeman communicates well, he’s a steady hand on the tiller, although he’s maybe not as good as he thinks he is  – he’s still got a lot to prove as a manager.”last_img
